I saw what appears to be a CAT 994H Wheel Loader on the road today. Had 3 or 4 squad cars and 2 construction trucks helping guide it and safely move it down the road at a jogging speed. It has 12 foot tall tires, weighs 190 tonnes, and has a 79.9 liter engine.... big things are cool!
Picture of what it looks like. It looks really really big in person- the front loader part took the full 2 lanes wide, about 20 feet.
Since it’s limited to 5 mph (8 kph), and they often move them disassembled for convenience, I imagine it was not going far at all. Probably just down the road.
Has to be one of the biggest machines I’ve seen on the road.

They more often move really big things like this. Not road legal unless you put it on a road legal truck at which point it’s technically not on the road.
The Merc towing it uses a perfectly normal engine with 500 or so bhp. Very low gearing does the rest.

I wonder how much damage that does to the road?

Very awesome! 169.5 L engine must go through a cars tank of gas in less than 2 miles.
Was it driving down the road at any point?
I’m half amazed by the size of the CAT 994H but the other half amazement was that it was on the road moving under it’s own steam.

I wouldn’t think much. I assume it rarely ever sees road considering it’s 430,000+ lbs operating weight, but the footprint of the large tires must help distribute the weight over a large enough surface to not cause damage.

No, I admit you have me there. The Terex had it’s engine removed by the time my picture was taken. It was used in a southeastern BC coal mine.
I believe the Terex measures in gallons per mile not the other way around lol.

Niceeee. That’s all I can contribute because I don’t know anything about insanely large machinery, tractors, and trucks.
